A Nickel for My ThoughtsA Nickel for My Thoughts

You would think that for someone who loves to be the center of attention, I would have started one of these a long time ago!

Prepared
September 1st. My question is, where did the summer go?
As a child, this was the most anticipated/dreaded time of the year. Back to school.
School supplies shopping, new clothes, new shoes.
Wondering who your teacher was going to be. Hoping it wasn't the one that was a bore.
Arranging all your new supplies on the living room floor.
Opening packages of pens and pencils, filling binders with looseleaf.
Convincing your mother that you really did NEED that pack of 60 Laurentien pencil crayons.
Picking out the 'First Day of School' outfit. That needed to be just perfect, because it needed to show the other kids that you were cool and trendy. (I am sure that they were all paying attention.)
Not being able to sleep the night before school started, partly out of excitement, partly out of fear of what the next day will bring.
School starts.
Where did the summer go?

I used my pencil crayons yesterday.
Summer was unusually fast this year, I feel like I missed it.

Time sure does fly. How does that work?
Even an old lady like me loves the thought of new school supplies!
Love you Hillary and miss you too. Mom

When I was in elementary,I had to use sticks I cut from a bush and pretend they were pencil crayons - and I only could have 3. More than that wasn't "necessary"

Hi Hills, Ah, yes, laying everything out on the living room floor! That was the highlight to be sure!! Do all kids do that? Or just you and your cousins? I knew without a doubt, that it was your dad writing the last comment before I even read his name! He probably had to walk uphill both ways too....in his pyjamas!! love you Hillary, do good.
